LBBC 100th Anniversary Celebrations
We enjoyed our 100th anniversary celebrations during the first weekend in May, 2014. On Friday, May 2, we held a banquet at the Oasis Catering and Convention Centre in Mississauga with about 225 guests. Our youth pastor's wife, Frances Nojd, put together an excellent video outlining many of the people and events that have helped to shape Long Branch Baptist Church over its history. One of our Elders, Colin Bannister, interviewed numerous guests in attendance who represented various decades of LBBC's history, dating back to the 1930s. On Sunday, May 4, about 250 people joined us for our special 100th anniversary Sunday service. Former youth pastor  Andrew Gordon, who is now Lead Pastor at Chartwell Baptist Church in Mississauga, gave a stirring message in which he shared lessons that he learned from his near-death illness of a couple years ago. Several former pastors were also present, including Morris Russell, Eric Wright and Chris Woroch. Several of our missionaries, both past and present, were also in attendance, including Charles McCordic Sr., Charles and Cyndy McCordic  Jr., Gerry Morehouse, Terry and Elaine Regnault and Phil and Janette Taylor. Please download a copy of our Anniversary Sunday bulletin to see the outline for our special worship service. During each of these events we held special anniversary offerings, in support of a number of local and international missions projects. In total, we raised over $19,000 to bless the youth of Toronto (through Urban Promise) as well as special missions projects in four nations (Nigeria, Cuba, Nepal and the Philippines). Our theme for this entire year is "100 Years: Celebrating God's Faithfulness", and as part of our ongoing celebrations we have been honouring many of the long-time servants in our midst with words of appreciation and a plaque.
